Inventory Your Personal Property

By: David Keller

I’m curious, how many of you can sit down with a pen and paper and list every item you have in your home or apartment without looking? What would you do, if you came home tonight and someone broke in and stole half of your possessions or a fire destroyed a large portion of your property? Could you sit down and tell the claims adjuster everything that was lost?

Taking an inventory of your personal property does not have to be a painful, time consuming process. It is as simple as grabbing your digital camera or your video camera and taking a shot of every room in your home and your garage. Once this is done, you can store either the pictures or the video in a safe and secure place. In the event that you have a loss, you can refer to those sources to trigger your memory on what has been lost.

An image can jog your memory of items you forgot

I can not stress the importance of this enough. If you haven’t already done this, I urge each one of you to take the time to do this. It can help ease the process in the event that you have a loss.
