April Showers Bring May Water Backups?

April Showers Bring May Water Backups?

By: David Keller, CPIA

Have you ever had the horrifying experience of walking into your basement and finding six inches of water?  Everything seems to be soaked with water or completely ruined. You cross your fingers and hope that your washing machine, dryer, furnace and hot water heater were not affected by the intrusive water.

Time is of the essence when you have water backs up within your basement.  As long as you act quickly, disaster recovery specialists can clean and dry your basement quickly.  But are you covered? Will your insurance company pay to clean your basement, or will you have to pay for this expense yourself?

First, it is critical that you understand the difference between a water back up and a flood.  A water back up is essentially a water intrusion in which the water rises up from your basement drains. A flood involves water entering your home over your basement’s foundation.

Coverage for both water back up and flood is not included in your standard homeowner’s insurance policy, but it is available. Contact a Keller National agent today to see if you are fully protected.  We can be reached at 216-965-0646 or simply, Request a Quote.
